This year’s fur con was a fantastic experience!
The con was “Monster” themed so, for this year, I’ve drawn Ardent and Whimsy as some monstrous variation on their base species.
For Ardent, I’ve drawn him as an arboreal Skiltaire, an alien pine marten species created by one of the original founders of the Furry Fandom, Sy Sable, back in the 80’s! These creatures are like our pine martens but with specialized antennae that help them detect electrical fields and focus their psychic abilities!
And for Whimsy, she’s got quite a style upgrade this year! In this version of her, she’s not just a regular white tailed deer, this time she’s a tufted deer with their distinctly fanged smile! And, building on that goth premise, she’s also sporting a pair of celestial star pattern bat wings to complete her vampire look!
These were a ton of fun to make and this year I actually did both of these in acrylic paint on watercolour paper, as opposed to the gouache I’ve used in years prior. I think the results turned out excellently and I’ll probably use these lovely, durable acrly-gouache paints as my go-to for my traditionally painted badges!
Very excited for what next year will bring!
